Day 4 - Rye (Medieval Stairmaster)
April 5, 2009 - Today was another day in Rye and the surrounding area. We started by travelling to Scotney Castle. This is actually a castle ruins and a new home. The family built the later after the old home started crumbling.
BTW - If you want - you should be able to click on any of these pictures to see a larger version and the rest of the pictures we have uploaded on Flickr. We haven't uploaded all the pictures yet, and while we have an internet connection today it's rather slow. So, more uploads to come.
The next castle was Bodiam Castle. Perhaps we should call this the Medieval Stairmaster workout. This was once a huge castle. Many of the towers and stone spiral staircases still exist. To get the best view of the castle you need to climb...and climb....and climb.
Lunch was great. We have eaten at some rather nice resturants that came highly reviewed but we were often less then impressed. Today we found a little out of the way place just off the road called the Waterside Cafe.

It was a beautful day so we sat on the patio out by the water. Cheri had a roast chicken plate with incredible roasted potatoes. Drew decided to try the Cheese Cauliflower. This was basically a large bowl of cauliflower buried in cheese. We were tempted by the Pork Crackling....which is basically pork cooked to the point where the outside fat is cooked so it crackles when you bite it.
